Arrival in Málaga and rental car pick up. Although the car was prebooked and paid, it became difficult and lengthy to say ‚no‘ to the woman trying to offer us a better and larger model. We were so happy not having agreed to take one with navigation system and a larger car. The car we got was a Citroen with the possibility to connect the smartphone and navigate via Google maps ( I downloaded the offline map before) and it was just small/ large enough to fit through smaller streets, very common in Andalucia. We actually still avoided some city parts, especially in Granada, even with a relatively small car.
We stayed a little distance away from the city center in an older hotel, boutique was not how I would describe it. Nothing we would necessarily recommend, only if you are looking for an economic and basic, clean, sufficient stay.
Instead of Spanish food we went for Italian and this came to be one of the better food we had in Malaga. The Pizzeria o Mamma mia https://www.omammamia.com, a chain. Im the supermarket we grabbed a cold can of beer and went to the beach.
Day 2
We started the day by walking into the center, to the Mercado Central de Atarazanas, we passed part of the beach, the boulevard, the museum Centre Pompidou, the park (Parque de Malaga), the shopping streets and finally arrived at the market. Nice building and offerings, interesting fruits and lots of fish. After the market, we went through the main shopping street and Frank bought a pair of piccolinos, he was really happy finding a store, in Germany you can buy them online, but not there are not many stores available.
The cultural program started with the Alcazaba. When you buy a ticket you can buy a combination ticket with the Castillo, located on the hill. It’s not possible to go directly from the Alcazaba to the Castillo, but you can also go later or the next day and it offers an amazing view over the city. Info on the Alcazaba which was started to be built in the 11th century you‘ll find here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcazaba_of_Málaga
After lunch and sitting a while near the cathedral next to the restaurant refectorium and another walk to the market to get a strengthening Smoothie, we started the walk up the hill to the Castillo.
The view point is located before the entrance so you can also start the walk without the ticket.
The afternoon we spent at the beach and had dinner at Terraza de las Flores, which was ok. There are better restaurants in Malaga, many people were waiting for tables at the Bodega el Pimpi. Next time we will try that one.
Steps on that day = 28679
After a late breakfast we drove to Granada. The hotel did send us a description how to get there and they had to communicate our data to the government as some streets were completely monitored by cameras and only allowed for buses or taxis to be used. We arrived after -of course- missing an exit and driving a bit illegal there. But wasn’t too bad since we didn’t get ticket. The Hotel Anacapri was absolutely perfect. In the center, nice lobby and breakfast room, nice room (small) with lotion and shower gel from Rituals.
Lunch at the Bar Muralla where we had bocadillos (sandwiches) for takeaway. we did it again, really nice sandwiches 😀
Then we took a walk through the old city center Albaicin up to the Mirador (view point) San Nicolas. Super crowded with flying traders, music, tourists, but a beautiful view. The Alhambra with snowy mountains in the back- just fantastic.
The Tabernilla del Darro became our favorite spot for evening drinks. Skipped dinner as we were really tired.

After a bit of shopping and a short stop at the cathedral we made our way to the Alhambra as we had prebooked tickets (must- book together with Palacio de Narizes). Took a bus which went through the Albaicin again, had some additional impressions of this part of the city and the bus ride triggered a bit of Adrenaline in the tiny roads. Bus plan (1,40€ per ride)See here https://granadainfo.com/alhambra/minibus.htm

Day 5
From the travel guide I fell in love with the view on the Jaen
Cathedral. It is huge! So we went via Jaen to Cordoba. In order to have the same view on the Cathedral you‘ll drive to the Castillo de Santa Catalina, Carretera al Castillo y el Neveral, Jaén. Parking place can be quite crowded but we were lucky. You don’t need to buy a ticket for the Castel (would be 3,50€) but you go past towards the summit cross. In Córdoba we stayed at the Hesperia de Cordoba. What a view on the city! Location directly a the Roman Bridge, and when you cross it you are in the center.
We booked dinner at https://restauranterincondecarmen.es , a cute place with a family atmosphere and alternative interpretations of tapas and drinks. Frank loved a drink with Sherry, tonic and lemonade.

Day 6
From Cordoba to Sevilla with a stop in Carmona. We parked free near the Castel in Carmona and paid 1€ entrance to enjoy mostly the view as the Castel is a ruin.
The antique center was not as polished as in other cities, some buildings were really neglected, but took a nice stroll around, the fuel was cheap too compared to the larger cities.
The hotel is near the Torre del Oro, where we went first and walked on the other side of the river, ate some Montaditos (small sandwiches), went to the other side and into the cathedral. The tower though was sold out until a few days later (something to prebook next time).
Late breakfast with ‚Yummy Morning‘ for me, my first Açaí bowl, I loved it!
Then we went to the Mushrooms of Sevilla/ Setas the Sevilla https://www.spain.info/de/highlights/metropol-parasol/ the Mirador cost 10€ but it was a very special experience and I would do it again! We didn’t take the package with the movie though.
Interesting architecture and excellent views on the city.
At Plaza de Espana we wanted to have some quiet, but a Techno act was already doing a sound check for a later concert. We were lucky we could stay as long, at some point they closed the whole park and people didn’t get in anymore and the police asked us to leave. Well, we did take some nice pictures, but were a bit sad it wasn’t as relaxing as we expected.

Days 8-12
Another ‚Yummy morning‘ later we bought post cards, wrote them and left for Cadiz.
At the adults only from TUI at the beach in Novo Sancti Petri Hipotels Playa la Barrosa was a great choice to spend some relaxing days at the end of our journey. At the coast it was little windy and not as hot as the cities. I only went swimming once, let's say I didn't actually swim but just fought the high waves and gave up relatively soon :-)
